COVID-19 'spot fires' to spread quickly through Queensland but hospitals will cope, Chief Health Officer John Gerrard says
Queensland's new Chief Health Officer (CHO) John Gerrard is warning COVID-19 will spread rapidly through the community now the borders have opened, but does not expect hospitals to be overwhelmed.
In his first media conference as CHO this morning, Dr Gerrard said the state's vaccination rollout had performed well above his expectations, with 88.3 per cent of eligible people aged 16 and older having received a first dose.
Dr Gerrard said Queensland could expect "more than hundreds" of COVID-19 cases in coming months.
